This advanced course utilizes a human-centered design framework to address organizational or programmatic challenges at HIV treatment or prevention community-based organizations (CBOs). This course is a tailored 6-week cohort-based intensive that will increase cohort understanding of how to apply Human Centered Design (HCD) approaches to challenges managers face in their organizations pertaining to managing people, managing programs or managing at the organizational level.

USCHA
October 8th-11th, 2022 – San Juan, PR

The United States Conference on HIV/AIDS brought together over 3,000 members of the HIV workforce for over 120 institutes, workshops, and posters. It has been more than two years since USCHA has been hosted in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 conference was planned to be hosted in San Juan, Puerto Rico, shining a much-needed light on the impact of HIV on the Puerto Rican and Hispanic/Latinx communities. Despite ongoing challenges around Hurricane Fiona, the conference was finally able to be held in San Juan this month.

The C4H team hosted a booth promoting the National Learning Community in the exhibition hall. We were excited to be able to reconnect with existing learners and community partners, as well as many new faces, to whom we are excited to introduce the NLC, as well as the broader work of our program.

At our booth, we invited attendees to write themselves a postcard with advice to their future self. If you participated in this activity, look out for your postcard in the mail in a couple of months!

We also invited attendees to write down advice to new managers on leaves which we added to our advice tree, which became a beautiful visual representation of our learning community. It is inspiring to hear about the incredible work that is being undertaken in this field and we feel privileged to work alongside you all!

VOICES
October 18th-19th, 2022 – Washington D.C.

The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum’s 12th Annual VOICES Conference marked a return to in-person gathering, after being held virtually last year. VOICES gathers healthcare leaders, key stakeholders, and advocates to explore and discuss health equity and health justice in eliminating disparities and supporting Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities.

The three-track conference focused on policy, community engagement, and capacity building, featuring sessions such as “Health Equity Outlook 2023,” and “Addressing AA & NH/PI Wellness and Mental Health in America,” as well as inspiring plenary speeches from Senator Mazie K. Hirono and Charles Kamasaki, author of Immigration Reform: The Corpse That Will Never Die.

C4H Program Manager, Maria Fernanda Gutierrez, facilitated a panel discussion, “Overcoming Chronic Inequities: Diabetes, Nutrition and Physical Activity in Historical Excluded Minority Populations,” featuring four incredible panelists discussing the unique challenges and disparities faced by AA & NH/PI communities when responding to, preventing, and managing chronic diseases like diabetes, obesity, hypertension, cancer, and rare diseases.

Thank you to all who attended!
